True to its energetic and bustling nature, Manila has many events and festivals through the year, some events being conducted keeping the tourists in mind and to give them an insight into the culture and traditions of Manila. Several Manila hotels provide holiday packages as well as pre-booking services keeping the festivities in mind.
1. In January, Manila has the Feast of the Black Nazarene, which is a religious festival which involves the wooden statue of dark skinned Jesus Christ carried around the city by a lively procession on the day of the feast.
2. January also is the month of Ati Atihan, the city's own version of the Mardi Gras and involves religious parades as well as cultural displays.
3. In the month of February, The Bamboo Organ Festival takes place at the St, Joseph's Church, with recitals of different genre being played on the bamboo organ. The Chinese New Year is also celebrated in February, with dragon dances, parades, fireworks and is a joyous occasion.
4. In March, Manila hosts the Philippines International Jazz and Arts Festival consisting of jazz music concerts all over the city.
5. April and May are months of important religious festivals in Manila, like the Maundy Thursday, the Flores de Mayo, which lasts the whole of May honoring the Virgin Mary, culminating in a parade held in the Rizal Park.
6. May also sees the city celebrating the San Isidro festival of Quezon, in honor of their patron saint, which is one of the liveliest festivals held in Manila.
7. June hosts two fun events. One of these is the Manila Day or Araw ng Maynila, on which Manila celebrates its culture through music shows, talent contests and foodfestivals. The other even is the Fete de la Musique, the city's most popular music festival with numerous local and international acts.
8. July and August host the Subli-an sa Manila and National Heroes Day, the former being a showcase of traditional dance styles with a backing four part choir and the latter being a national holiday throughout Philippines.
9. In September, the Kalesa Festival is celebrated which promotes the use of old fashioned carts as a means of transport and celebrates this heritage through song and dance.
10. September is also the month of the Filipino Heritage Festival, celebrating all the good aspects of the culture in a vibrant way at the Rizal Park. It provides visitors with a complete picture of the music, dance, handicrafts and food unique to the Filipino culture.
11. In October, Manila hosts the nine day long La Naval Festival paying respect to Our Lady of the Rosary and is a major Catholic event.
12. November brings the Feast of Nuestra Senora Delos, a procession in the streets in honor of one of Manila's patron saints.
13. November also celebrates the International Salsa Festival, with numerous performances as well as workshops.
Marking the end of a festive year, Manila celebrates Christmas in December with much enthusiasm and fervor, due to majority of the people belonging to the Catholic faith. Most hotels in Manila are beautifully decorated during this time adding to the festive atmosphere of the city.
